One of the core characteristics of medical endoscopes is that they need to complete image collection, data transmission, and instrument operation in a very limited space. The camera is usually located at the front, and the image data needs to be transmitted along the internal cable bundle to the backend processing circuit, so the cable bundle cannot occupy too much space and must also have sufficient flexibility and high-speed signal transmission capability. Ordinary cables with larger outer diameters are likely to increase the size of the probe and insertion part, and will also limit the bending and internal layout; while extremely thin coaxial cables can integrate multiple signals in a smaller cross-section and improve crosstalk and external interference during high-speed signal transmission through the coaxial structure. The image data volume generated by the endoscope camera module is large, and with the development of high-definition and high-frame-rate imaging, the requirement for signal integrity of the internal connection is also increasing. The central conductor of the extremely thin coaxial cable is responsible for signal transmission, and the external shielding structure helps to reduce external electromagnetic interference and crosstalk between adjacent channels, thus still providing a relatively stable transmission environment for high-speed signals even in very small wire diameters. Taking the I-PEX 82439-100B-02-D as an example, this cable assembly uses 40 AWG#46, 50Ω Micro-Coaxial cable material, with a length of 300mm, and is matched with the 20974-040T-01 cable end connector. The corresponding CABLINE®-CX II With Cover connector is officially given a reference transmission speed of 5 Gbps/lane NRZ, and lists reference applications such as USB 3.1 Gen1, V-by-One HS, HDMI, eDP, and MIPI. It should be emphasized that these are the reference specifications of the connector series and do not equate to the actual image transmission rate that the medical endoscope system can achieve; the final performance still needs to be combined with the whole machine SI design and verification.

For endoscope engineers, wire selection cannot be based solely on current-carrying capacity; it also needs to consider outer diameter, bending space, signal impedance, shielding structure, connector size, and long-term mechanical movement. The I-PEX CABLINE®-CX II With Cover product literature lists AWG39, AWG44, and AWG46 Micro-Coaxial specifications and indicates precautions for characteristic impedance mismatch for some wire diameters; while the 82439-100B-02-D Harness drawing specifically specifies the use of AWG#46, 50Ω, Blue Micro-Coaxial with 40 cores. Therefore, if the original equipment design is 82439-100B-02-D, the specific wire material requirements of the Harness drawing should be used as the basis for replacement development, rather than simply judging based on the general wire diameter range on the connector page. For purchasers, 82439-100B-02-D + 20974-040T-01 + AWG#46 + 50Ω + 300mm + 40Pin should be considered as an important combination of information for quotation, sampling, and supplier technical confirmation.

If the medical endoscope project needs to replace the existing I-PEX 82439-100B-02-D, it is recommended that the engineering end first confirm the number of 40Pin interfaces, 0.25mm contact spacing, connector assembly height, AWG#46 wire, 50Ω impedance, 300mm length, and actual Pin Assignment at both ends. Especially note that the PDF drawing of this 82439-100B-02-D shows that Connector 1 and Connector 2 use a reverse correspondence relationship, i.e., 40→1, 39→2……1→40, so it cannot be simply made according to the ordinary 1-1 cable assembly. The wire end uses the 20974-040T-01 Housing Assembly, which includes components such as the 3655-0401 Shell and 20975-040T-01 Lock Bar. When actually replacing it, it is also necessary to verify the connector fit, shielding continuity, termination quality, and high-speed signal integrity. The I-PEX official page also lists 1-N Harnesses such as 82877 (100mm), 82878 (200mm), and 82439 (300mm), as well as 1-1 Harnesses such as 83004/83005/83006, and the length and wire sequence cannot be mixed.
